Part 1: What is Personal Power?
Personal power is the capacity or ability to direct or influence the behavior of others and the course of events in your life.
Alternatively, personal power is also about not allowing others to direct or influence YOUR behavior, especially in negative ways.
Understanding Personal Power
Personal power manifests in two primary ways: internally and externally.
1. Internal Personal Power
Internal personal power is rooted in our thoughts, emotions, and feelings, as well as our ability to regulate them in a healthy way—often referred to as emotional intelligence.
Thoughts are energy, they are real, and they hold power!
When we feel powerful, we tend to be optimistic.
When we feel powerless, we tend to be pessimistic.
2. External Personal Power
External personal power is expressed through our voice, body language, and ability to influence or persuade others.
How you speak and carry yourself can significantly impact how others perceive you.
Confident body language and a strong voice reinforce a sense of control and authority.
The Consequences of Lacking Personal Power
When personal power is diminished or given away, it often results in:
Negativity
Helplessness
Hopelessness
Fear
Feeling stuck
Inability to take action.
Understanding the nature of personal power is the first step toward reclaiming it.
